Three-Country Cycling Tour
Organized by the Grensrijders
text and organization: Oliver Piper
Saturday, July 11, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. 50-55 km through Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Starts at the parking lot (next to the Tom Dumoulin Bike Park, Parijsboulevard, 6135 LD Sittard-Geleen). Registration is available at Ligfiets.net.
At the time of writing, the route of our tour is only roughly finalized. We will most likely have to adjust it due to work on the A2 motorway widening.
The plan is to cycle from Sittard through the Limburg fields and villages towards the Meuse River, where we’ll take the ferry to Belgium. From there, we’ll follow the Meuse downstream to Maaseik, where we’ll return to the Netherlands. We’ll now cross the narrowest part of the Netherlands, but the route we’ll take depends on the aforementioned roadworks. After this, we’ll cross the border to our eastern neighbors near the westernmost point of Germany. Here, we’ll follow the border, finally returning to Sittard and the Tom Dumoulin Bike Park with a bit of climbing. The entire ride will be approximately 50-55 km, depending on detours surrounding the roadworks.
